There has been high interest in the game of golf lately. Golf has a long tradition in our region – the first golf club was established right here in Karlovy Vary in 1904.For the purpose of year-round and comprehensive use of the grounds, a construction project of a 9-hole public course inside the racing compound commenced in 2002; the works finished in May 2005.Following a call for tenders, architect Städler prepared a Master Plan for the golf course with nine tracks and eighteen greens. This means, in fact that there is an 18-hole course. When finishing 18 standard holes a golf player has gone through each track twice, but on completely different greens.
This is a very unique project; there are just a few of this kind around the world. The holes are 120 (Par 3) to 485 (Par 5) metres distant.Under no circumstances is this a championship course for master tournaments, but lower and middle category competitions can take place here. The construction was in accordance with USGA standards, which apply worldwide for building golf courses.This guarantees a high quality of the golf course, which is open to the general public. To improve the quality further, an automatic irrigation system has been introduced that irrigates individual holes and the race track at the same time, which has resulted in a higher standard and better maintenance. Due to the golf course with PAR 68 and length of 4,932 m there is another sport ground in the race compound that has contributed remarkably to the recreational opportunities in Karlovy Vary.
